We all understand the need to eat right, exercise and get enough sleep to be healthy, but I wonder if we realize how potent our thought life is, and how it fits into our health profile?
I’m reading an excellent book, Who Switched Off my Brain?, by Dr. Caroline Leaf. In it she details the electrochemical impact that our mental thoughts make on our physical bodies. Yes- the mind/body connection is REAL!
According to her years of research, she finds that every mood, stressor, positive OR negative thought/emotion has a corresponding response in the body.
Unchecked, a cluttered MIND that replays and rehashes events and conversations, refuses to forgive, (self or others), or is in a constant state of anxiety, (fear, anger, bitterness, depression, etc.,) shows up in the short run or in the long run PHYSICALLY in the muscles, joints, organs, glands, and cells.
The good news is that we can re train our thought life (taking thoughts essentially “captive” and re programming them into a right frame work) just as we can change other bad habits that are not working for our good. Our minds and even our cells can be renewed for our health and wholeness!
So, what do you think? It’s a good one to consider. I am personally taking this seriously, and re framing thoughts that are toxic and a waste of time, by focusing my internal attention instead on what is true, right and good about myself and others! Guess what, I’m a lot happier not focusing on the negatives!
